The German football club Mainz announced today, Monday, the lifting of the suspension imposed on Dutch striker Anwar El Ghazi due to a post on social media about the war between Israel and Hamas.
Mainz said that Al-Ghazi received a reprimand, and will return to training with the team and will participate in the next match, according to what was reported by the Associated Press.
Al-Ghazi was subjected to a suspension penalty on October 18 due to what was described as an “unacceptable” post on Instagram, and he did not participate in two of the team’s league matches.
Mainz stated on Monday that Al-Ghazi disavowed the “post” during his talks with the club’s management.
It is worth noting that Al-Ghazi, 28 years old, who previously played for PSV Eindhoven, Aston Villa and Everton, joined Mainz last month, and participated in three matches as a substitute.
