
Victor Francos Díaz, Spanish Minister of State for Sports and President of the Supreme Sports Council, said on Thursday that the 2030 World Cup, for which the FIFA Council unanimously chose the Morocco-Spain-Portugal bid as the sole nomination to organize it, “will unite Africa and Europe through the passion for football.”
“Spain, Morocco and Portugal will have the honor of uniting Africa and Europe through a sport that captivates us,” Francos said in a statement to the Maghreb Arab Press.
The Spanish official considered that the FIFA Council’s decision “constitutes great news for Morocco, Portugal and Spain,” stressing that “the matter is now in our hands so that we can organize the major tournament that the fans have been waiting for.”
“The Supreme Council for Sport would like to express its sincere gratitude, pride and relief” following FIFA’s decision, Mr. Francos concluded.
A statement from the Royal Court announced: “His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God grant him victory, announces with great joy to the Moroccan people the news that the International Football Association Board has unanimously approved the Morocco-Spain-Portugal bid as the sole candidacy to organize the 2030 FIFA World Cup.”
His Majesty the King said, “This decision represents a tribute and recognition of the special position that Morocco enjoys among the major nations.”
On this occasion, His Majesty the King expressed his congratulations to the Kingdom of Spain and the Republic of Portugal. His Majesty reiterated the commitment of the Kingdom of Morocco to work, in full integration, with the bodies in charge of this file in the host countries.
