The Tehran Embassy in Madrid denied the news circulating about the Iranian judiciary issuing a flogging sentence against Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo on charges of adultery, after he hugged Iranian painter Fatemeh Hammami, who suffers from a physical disability.
The Iranian embassy said in a statement published on its page on the “X” platform: “We strongly deny the issuance of any ruling against any international athlete in Iran.”
The Iranian embassy indicated that Cristiano Ronaldo traveled to Iran between September 18 and 19 to participate in an official football match, “and was greatly welcomed by the people and authorities, and his sincere and humane meeting with Fatima Hammami was the subject of praise and admiration.”
.
She added: “What is worrying is that publishing such baseless news could cast a shadow over crimes against humanity and war crimes against the oppressed Palestinian people.”
