The new Italian coach, Luciano Spalletti, pledged a new era for the Italian national team (Nacionale), which will resume the 2024 European Championship qualifiers against Macedonia on September 9, and Ukraine three days later.
“We have gone through a serious, unexpected and unprecedented crisis,” Spalletti, who was appointed after the departure of Roberto Mancini, said in a press statement.
He continued by saying, “This period that we faced without failing in our values and by giving priority to the national shirt, gave us the energy to open a new chapter in our history,” noting that former coach Mancini released many young talents and formed a good team.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the former Napoli coach realizes that he must rebuild, or at least repair, the relationship between the Italian national team and the public, which was damaged by the failure to qualify for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
