Indonesia is holding talks with Australia to submit a joint bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, despite the Asian Confederation’s announcement of support for Saudi Arabia’s candidacy, according to the president of the football federation.
Last week, the International Federation (FIFA) called on national federations from Asia and Oceania to submit nomination files for the 2034 edition, after naming the joint bid of Morocco, Spain and Portugal to host the 2030 edition, with three matches being held in South America.
The deadline for submitting letters of confirmation from national member associations interested in nominating will be October 31, 2023.
The FIFA Congress will approve the final hosting bid starting in the last quarter of 2024.
