Press reports stated that Brazilian Vinicius Junior felt great anger due to racist insults, during the El Clasico match between his team, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, which took place yesterday, Saturday, in the 11th round of La Liga, at the Luis Companis Stadium, and ended with the royal team winning by two goals to one.
The Spanish newspaper Marca said that the reason for Vinicius Junior’s out of his mind, and the great anger that occurred at the Real Madrid substitutes’ bench, was due to the Brazilian star receiving a number of racist insults, launched by some Barcelona fans present in the stands.
The newspaper added that some Barcelona fans in the stands and close to the Real Madrid substitutes bench directed racist words directly at the Brazilian star, calling him a “monkey,” while one of them threw an object resembling a banana peel near the player.
FC Barcelona expressed its strong rejection of the racist chants issued by some of the team’s fans during the El Clásico match, as the club issued an official statement through its account on the “X” platform.
The Catalan club said in its statement: “FC Barcelona will always defend the values of football and sports, such as respect for the opponent.”
