Wydad Athletic Club defeats Esperance and qualifies for the African League final

Wydad Athletic Club qualified for the final of the African League after defeating Esperance of Tunisia on penalties, in the match that brought them together today, Wednesday, at Rades Olympic Stadium, in the second leg of the semi-finals.

The first half of the match ended in a goalless draw, before Esperance scored the lead goal in the 66th minute through its Brazilian player Rodrigo Rodriguez.

The two sides resorted to penalty kicks after the end of the match’s regular time, with Esperance winning 1-0, the same result that Wydad won in the first leg.

The Moroccan team outperformed its Tunisian counterpart in the penalty shootout (4-5).

Wydad Athletic Club will meet in the final with the winner of the Egyptian Al-Ahly match against South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns.
